Candy Olson

Candy Olson has served on the Hillsborough County School Board since 1994, and has chaired the board twice.  She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a budget of $2.6 billion for the 8th largest school district in the nation and the county’s largest employer with 30,000 employees. 

She has been a classroom volunteer, PTA president, president of the boards of SERVE (the county school volunteer program) and The Spring, and treasurer and vice president of the Child Abuse Council. She has been active in United Way, serving two terms on the board and several years on the finance committee.  She is also a member of the Athena Society and the Preservation Roundtable.

She currently serves on the boards of the Salvation Army; the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, where she chairs the Education Committee; and is vice president of the Mayor’s Beautification Committee.  She chairs her church’s Pastoral Council.  She served four terms as chair of the Council of Governments, an organization of elected officials from Hillsborough County, the School Board, and the cities of Plant City, Tampa, and Temple Terrace.

She earned an MBA from the University of South Florida, where she was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business honor society.

Candy and her husband, John, a judge, have two children, both graduates of Hillsborough County public schools. One is a graduate of the University of Delaware and the other a graduate of Harvard University.
